Peruvian Canadar is the proven son of the world famous Hemingway who
imprinted his trademark for fineness on the prodigal son.  Canadar's fleece
measured 17.6 microns in 1997 and at eight years of age remained under 20
microns at 19.4 in 2004.  But Canadar's claim to fame will be his progeny who are
fine, bright examples of huacaya excellence with their high style, crimpy fleece,
making grandpa Hemingway proud.  His combination of great phenotype, superior
genetices, and shocking fleece statistics will undoubtedly carry on his sire's legacy.
Hemingway was known for his outstanding fleece measuring 17.8 microns with a standard
deviation of 3.6 microns and a coefficient of variation of 19.1 percent when he was three years of
age.  Today his C of V is 15.9 % which is even more remarkable since Hemingway is over twelve
years old and has been shorn at least nine times.  He is a robust male who yyielded almost tem
pounds of fleece from one year's growth at last years shearing.  He has over 450 cria on the
ground in the U.S. and each one is spectacular.  Visit the ranch and inspect the proof - his off
spring!  As testament to Himingway's influence on our breeding program the following
Studmaster males.  El Bello, MSA Hemingway's Tequila, NWA Haldane, and NWA
Artero, are Hemingway progeny.

The 1994 import from Peru provided the first Accoyo alpacas to the United States.  Julio Barreda personally selected the males that were
included.  This particular shipment was of extraordinary quality.  Two Accoyo males stood out; Caligula and Pluro.   Years later I asked
Barreda why he had sent some of his best Plantel males in that first import.  “They were my business card,” he said.  “I didn’t want anyone to
forget Accoyo.”    Greg Mecklem of Pacific Crest Alpacas could not get the huge male out of his mind. Soon after the import sale, one of Greg’
s females, who had been bred to Caligula, had a cria.  Greg remembers it as the best cria he had ever seen.
Greg them sold 50% of Caligula to Mary Goodman, and she won the Small Breeder of the Year award at the All American Futurity for several
years running; mostly on the strength of Caligula’s progeny winnings.
Caligula died in 2003 with 203 registered offspring.  His progeny won 12 get of sire competitions, two of those at AOBA National shows.
Once he was 2nd in the get class at the Nationals, losing to his son Accoyo’s El Nino’s first place get.  His sons and daughters have won 17
championships at the largest shows in the U.S., not counting the breeder’s best awards.
